How do you approach songwriting?

I've had songs come to me in a variety of situations. Through experiences, places, people, relationships - you name it. Something has to move me enough to want to write about it. Very seldom if I force myself to sit down and write a song will it ever happen. I have to feel it inside, be inspired, or be really passionate about something.

That's what inspired the song Conscious ... frustration. Frustrations with the way we treat each other as people in this world. It doesn't have to be this way. It's time for a wave of Consciousness to begin, we need to start thinking about something much bigger than just ourselves.

The world isn't going to get any better if we don't. It's up to us to change it ... it can be done. Small steps can lead to bigger ones if we truly want to make a difference.

DON'T FORGET TO ROCK!

It's real easy to get caught up with all of the hype from an internet fan base that a successful new band can accumulate. But all of the internet social networking can be deadly - if you don't get out of the house and play. If you don't remember why you got into music in the first place - you'll lose touch with your musician self and stagnate.

For me, it's always been about the music. But the internet can suck you in if you're not careful. I'm not saying don't market yourself, I guess what I'm really saying is - remember why you got into music to begin with, and just go out and do it - for the pure pleasure it brings to you and to others. This is a hard lesson I'm learning, but am confident that it will bring me greater happiness in my music career. Now excuse me while I get out and play some music!
